MEET OUR PEOPLE

Darren Charrier

I help Earth benefit from space by connecting life-saving and revolutionary satellites back to Mother Earth.

Why did you start working at SSC?
Simple! I want to make as big of an impact on the space industry as possible, and ground stations are required for every single space mission. Therefore, since I wanted to get exposure to all aspects of the space industry, it was only logical to come to a ground station company.

What are you doing in your current role?
At SSC I work as a solutions architect, which essentially means that I get to be the liaison between the intense rocket science that is required for our work and the world of sales and marketing that brings our services to the industry. In other words, I use my background in aerospace engineering to help customers understand our core services, come up with unique solutions that satisfy their mission, and help explain technical concepts that individuals may not understand.

What sort of projects are you working on now?
Currently I am working on everything from supporting companies that are going to the moon and building space robots to aiding our marketing and sales team in communicating the amazing work we do. Although there is no such thing as a “standard” day, a workday for me often consists of running orbital analyses for supporting customer missions, sitting in on customer meetings to better understand their needs and answer any questions, and working hand-in-hand with our marketing and sales team to streamline our messaging and customer support.

What makes you passionate about your work?
In my lifetime humans will colonize the Moon and Mars and I am determined to make that a reality. We are currently in the most transformative period of space exploration, and I am incredibly passionate about working with space companies across the industry to help them achieve their goals.

How would you describe SSC as an employer?
SSC as an employer is fantastic. First of all, you can never go wrong by working on exciting space missions every day, but where else would I get the opportunity to do that while getting to work from Southern California and being able to travel around the world?
