SUNRISE was successfully launched from Esrange Space Center on June 12, 2013 at 05.38 UTC.
The balloon is now heading for Canada. The SUNRISE payload, will be carried by a 963 000 m3 NASA scientific balloon, up to an altitude of approximately 37 km. After a fligh of 4-6 days the balloon will be taken down in Canada.
The SUNRISE project aims at high-resolution spectro-polarimetric observations of the solar atmosphere on the intrinsic spatial scale of its magnetic structure. The SUNRISE telescope with 1 m aperture and its instruments will provide spectra and images resolving spatial scales down to 35 km on the Sun.
