The Swedish Minister for Education (and "space minister")
Jan Björklund makes his first visit to Esrange Space Center today to get a deeper understanding of SSC's activities at the base. He will get in-depth presentations both of SSC's launch services for rockets and balloons and of the satellite communication services provided by the ground station at Esrange.
Lars Leijonborg, member of the SSC Board and host for Björklund's visit, says that the Minister's visit is important for SSC. Leijonborg points out the importance of making Swedish politicians aware of the unique infrastructure that Esrange provides. It has helped in making SSC the world's largest civilian provider of satellite communication services. This is an expanding business and we anticipate long-term prosperity in this field. Esrange has great potentials also thanks to its unique conditions for rocket and balloon launches, Leijonborg says. These services are of great value in scientific research.
