OUR MISSION
Protection of natural resources - an economic necessity
The establishment of a national Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) implies both rights and obligations. The right to the marine and seabed resources are linked to an obligation to monitor and protect the zone from both pollution and uncontrolled exploitation. The need for general sea traffic control and a readiness for search and rescue operations are ever present. Add to this the need for border patrol to prevent smuggling, illegal immigration and other illicit cross-border activities and the justification for regular airborne maritime surveillance missions is obvious. There is also a growing awareness that the resources of the Earth are limited. There is therefore a growing necessity to protect the resources of the oceans, including the protection against illegal fishing. Over the years, all these considerations have demonstrated the need for the SSC Maritime Surveillance System.
30 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Swedish Space Corporation first developed an airborne remote sensing system for the Swedish Coast Guard in the 70’s. Now, several system generations and deliveries later, the SSC Maritime Surveillance System is in operational use in a number of countries around the world.
Based on the ideas and suggestionsfrom our users and new possibilites provided by new technology, we continously develop the system. The MSS 5000flew for the first time in June 1998 and inspired by its success of the we now sell our latest design the MSS 6000. The first MSS 6000 system was commissioned by Transport Canada’s Marine Safety branch in November 2006.They subsequently bought two more systems(.altogether 3 systems) Since than the MSS 6000 has been delivered to Estonia (1 system), Sweden (3 systems), Iceland (1 system), Malaysia (2 systems), Finland (2 systems)and Poland (1 system). In 2011 and 12 we will deliver 3 systems to Vietnam and two upgradeded systems to Finland.
